Splitly is a timing and team management tool for track and cross country coaches and athletes. If something isn't working, or you have a question that isn't answered here, send us an email - we read every message.
For bug reports, please include the device you're using (e.g., iPhone 14 in Safari, Pixel 7 in Chrome), what you were doing when the issue happened, and a screenshot if possible. The more detail you can give, the faster we can fix it.
For first-time users on any device.
Splitly uses Google Sign-In. Tap the "Continue with Google" button on the login screen and choose your Google account. That's it - Splitly is verified by Google, so there are no extra warning screens to click through.
iPhone (Safari): Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, then scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen."
Android (Chrome): Tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then tap "Install app" or "Add to Home screen."
Desktop (Chrome or Edge): Look for the install icon in the address bar, or use the menu and select "Install Splitly."
Once installed, Splitly opens in its own window like a regular app - no browser tabs or address bar.
Yes - Splitly is currently free for coaches and athletes. There is no paid tier and no advertising.
Setting up your program, timing, and managing your team.
After signing in for the first time, you'll see a "Create a Program" option. Tap it, give your program a name (like "Lincoln HS Track & Field"), and you're set up as the head coach.
You'll then be given two invite codes - a coral one for assistant coaches and a teal one for athletes. Share these with the right people so they can join your program.
You can add athletes two ways:
By invite code (athletes have their own logins): Share your athlete invite code from Program Settings. Athletes sign in with their own Google account, enter the code, and they appear in your program. You then link their Google account to a profile from the Athletes screen.
Roster only (no athlete logins needed): Go to Teams & Athletes and add athletes manually - just their names. Their training data will be visible to you but they won't have an account to sign in to.
Each coach signs in with their own Google account and joins the same meet. Both coaches time independently - splits are saved separately under each coach's account and can be compared side-by-side in the results view.
This is useful at meets where you want a backup timer, or when one coach can see one side of the track better than the other.
After finishing a meet event, tap the green "Export to Sheets" button. Splitly will create a new Google Sheet in your own Drive with all splits and timing data.
You'll need to grant Sheets access during sign-in for this to work. Splitly only ever creates new sheets - it never reads or modifies any existing files in your Drive.
Go to Administration in your dashboard, find the member you want to remove, and tap Deactivate. They'll lose access to your program immediately the next time they open the app.
Their training data within your program is preserved unless you also delete their athlete profile.
Joining your team and using your training tools.
Sign in to Splitly with your Google account, then tap "Join a Program." Enter the athlete invite code your coach shared with you (it'll look something like "HLM-4K2"). That's it - you're in.
If you don't have a code, ask your coach or program administrator for one.
You're in your program, but your account hasn't been linked to your athlete profile yet. Your coach needs to do this from their end - it's a one-time step that connects your Google login to your name on the roster.
Send your coach a message asking them to link your account. Once they do, your training plan, PRs, and meet results will appear automatically.
From your home screen, tap "Log Activity." Choose the type (run, track workout, bike, swim, weights, or other), fill in the details, and tap Save. Your coach can see your logged activity in their performance dashboard.
Managing your data and access.
Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase, hosted in the United States. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, find Splitly in the list, and tap Remove Access. This signs you out and removes all Google permissions.
Email us at trackappproject@gmail.com with the subject "Delete My Account" and we'll permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Splitly is built for high school and club track and cross country programs. It runs in any modern web browser and installs to your phone or tablet as an app - no app store required. We ship updates frequently based on coach and athlete feedback, so if something is missing or could work better, please let us know.
